Euchre rules at a glance

Euchre is a four-player partnership game played with a 24-card deck: the 9s through the Aces in each suit. Partners sit opposite each other, and the first partnership to reach the target score wins.

Each player receives five cards. Players bid to name the trump suit, and the partnership that makes trump must take at least three of the five tricks. The jacks are special: the jack of trump is the right bower, and the jack of the same color is the left bower. Both count as trump.

  • Four players in two partnerships, sitting opposite each other.
  • Five cards each from a 24-card deck.
  • Name trump, then try to take at least three of the five tricks.
  • The right and left bowers are the most powerful trumps.
  • Taking all five tricks is a march; failing to make three is a euchre.
